Our History

In September of 2003, the Church of the Living God, Southern New England Diocese State Evangelist Team (Elder Minette Miller, Minister Kathy Hughes and Elder Malisa Morris) conducted a three-day revival in Utica, New York at the First Church of the Living God, 915 Shaw Street. The Revival was a great success, souls were revived, saved and added to the church. While there, Elder Malisa Morris stated the Lord laid on her heart to continue the work started by the Late General Elder Elester Wright and Mother Ophelia Wright until a new pastor could be appointed. The Team traveled faithful for over 3 hours each way, even through snow storms.  In July of 2004 President General of the Churches of the Living God Bishop Jesse J. White, Sr. ordained and appointed Elder Kathy Hughes as the Pastor of the First Church of the Living God in Utica, New York.

In February of 2005 Elder Kathy Hughes, Deacon Willie Hughes, Deacon Rufus Holliman, Deaconess Sandra Wight and Trustee Elester Wright, Jr. being led by God started a new ministry, Deliverance First Ministries Church of the Living God” in Utica, New York. They held services at the home of Deacon Rufus Holliman until God blessed them to be able to purchase their first building located at, 934 Sunset Avenue, Utica in August of 2004.
